How Do Self-Expanding Foam Bags Work?

Mini Foam protective bags contain two separated polyurethane system components, A and B.

When the bag is activated, the components mix and begin reacting. During this reaction, an expanding foam mass is formed.

As the foam expands, the bag can conform to the product and the available space inside the carton.

Once the reaction is complete and the foam has cured, a supportive cushioning structure is formed.

This process allows customised protection without the need for pre-manufactured foam inserts.

How to Use Mini Foam Protective Bags

1. Activate the bag. Compress the internal capsule according to the manufacturer's instructions to enable mixing of components A and B.

2. Mix the components. Knead the bag as instructed by the manufacturer until the components are adequately mixed.

3. Place the bag inside the carton. Position the activated bag where cushioning is required while the foam is still expanding.

4. Position the product. Carefully place the product onto the forming cushion, avoiding concentrated pressure on sensitive parts.

5. Add upper protection if required. Activate a second bag and position it above the product or in another area requiring support.

6. Allow the foam to form completely. Follow the manufacturer's specified expansion and curing times. Complete carton closure according to the product instructions.

Safety note: Polyurethane foam formation may generate heat. Do not puncture or open an activated bag. Protect sensitive product surfaces and follow the manufacturer's safety instructions.

How Many Foam Bags Are Needed per Shipment?

For many applications, a practical starting point is a two-bag system – one bag below the product and another above it.

However, the appropriate quantity depends on product weight, shape, fragility, carton dimensions and available space.

Larger or irregularly shaped products may require additional cushioning supports.

Before adopting a packaging method for regular shipments, trial packing is recommended to verify that the product is properly secured.
